International Fraud Awareness Week
To mark International Fraud Awareness Week (17-23 November), The Shared Anti Fraud Service (SAFS) is highlighting its efforts to combat fraud and make it easier for people to report criminal behaviour.
The service provides a fraud prevention and investigation service to its partner organisations, including our housing group, across all the services they provide.
In the first four years of the Shared Anti-Fraud Service, over 4,000 allegations of fraud were reported. Fraud in excess of £15.5m was identified across its partners including tenancy fraud, staff fraud, blue badge abuse, council tax fraud, contract fraud, and insurance fraud.
Many of these reports came from members of the public who were aware that others were stealing public money from local councils.
How can you help us tackle housing fraud?
We have a duty to ensure we make the best use of the homes we own and manage to guarantee that the people living there are legally entitled to be there. As an organisation we’ll continue to tackle housing fraud including unlawful subletting and occupancy.
If you see it, hear it or suspect it, report it online or call 0300 123 4033.
